Beam work with Artists and communities to enhance places through the development of bespoke creative arts projects. Beam is the trading name of Public Arts – an arts organisation and charity founded in 1986, based in Wakefield and working across the Yorkshire region and beyond.
In 2012 Beam initiated Wakefield Lit Fest to stimulate and celebrate reading and writing in Wakefield and district, initially using Beam’s former base The Orangery as a hub. Since then the festival has grown and spread to many other city and district venues and we celebrate our fifth birthday in 2016.
We are grateful to all our festival supporters past and present including Arts Council England, Wakefield Libraries, Statement, Wakefield College, Wakefield Civic Society, Wordlife, Unity Works, Wakefield Express, WPA Pinfold, Rickaro Books, Topic UK and a wide range of partners, organisations and individuals across the city and district without whom the festival could not happen.
Lit Fest Patron - Michael Wood
"I’m delighted to be involved as part of this year’s Lit Fest programme with such a wide range of events that cater for all ages, tastes and areas of interest - it’s really great to see the festival grow and develop each year. The team have created a packed programme and I urge audiences to sample as many events as they can and hopefully try something new this year!"
